# Books books books
I’m in a quandry. Two books arrived today and I don’t know which to read first. Worse, a third is due to arrive sometime soon. Well, it will if Boomerang Books don’t want me to pay them a visit with the lightsabre.
Today, The seventh book of the Dark Tower series, cunningly called "The Dark Tower", arrived from Amazon. Okay, Steve, you can die now. You’re allowed to now. I haven’t touched it, D said I have to finish off the design for her new web project before I am allowed to read it.
And then she comes home with "Eats, Shoots & Leaves". As you all know, grammar and I, we have a love-hate relationship going on. I want to have good grammar, but grammar spurns me. It’s like I’m back in high school and Lisa Hale is playing the role of Grammar. I shall devour this book, just like I stalke…well, I’ve said too much.
And anytime soon, "Imagining Australia" will be arriving. (/me stares at BoomerangBooks.com.au and then glances meaningfully at Mr Bad Muthafucka) I’m quite looking forward to this one.
And then D goes and reminds me that "Market Forces" is waiting for at the library. It’s been a long time since I routinely read three or four books simultaneously, but dammit, I may have to start again.

# Blowing off steam
The Your Poor Bastard hit today. There was plenty of blame, and my, didn’t a lot of it get deflected at me, the guy who never wrote the software and has never changed the code that now has a “issue”. And hey, look. The guy who was involved in the testing of said code, the guy sho supplies the data and should have verified that we were processing it correctly. Look at him throw and deflect blame.
The innocent were hunted down like scurvy dogs.
I was not there to cover my arse. I was there to fix the problem. More fool I. I said “I was told the message sending was fire & forget, that there was no way to get a delivery receipt back from Your Unnamed Company”. That was a mistake. The Advertising Agency that is technically our employer (we sub-contract to provide a customer database and message sending capability, essentially) piped up and said “We weren’t involved in that” and was rewarded with laughs and placating looks.
Praise for the Non-Participants
They ignored me when I point out there was data missing from update files, and then suggested that our processing of the update files was incorrect. They made a suggestion on how to fix a reporting issue and then talked over me when I tried to explain that it wouldn’t work.
In the shortest fashion I can possibly use, I lost. I lost the meeting. I was one of the two Players but I got handed the Con suit the instant Oulook popped the meeting request. I mis-detected the Agenda, I Lost. If I was a drinking man, I’d go home and shoot rum all night. If I was a gambling man, I’d already be sitting in front of some flashing, beeping machine feeding in twenties. If I was violent, I’d go home and take it out on whichever family member got in my way first.
I’m not any of these. I’m just the guy who will rant uselessly on this page, and go home and try and get back my balance and my happy.
