# A David Brooks all our own
Miranda Devine, SMHIt is clear from the extraordinary success of Channel Nine's Monday-night program Supernanny that Australian parents are suffering a crisis of confidence in their child-rearing skills.
I've also noticed Australians having a crisis of confidence in their faffing-about-on-stage-and-passionlessly-warbling-TV-friendly-pop-songs skills; thank the gods for Australian Idol, American Idol, Popstars and X-Factor. phew That was close, eh.

# Imagine him saying that
Frank Devine concluded his article in the March 2005 issue of Quadrant quoting Tim Blair with the comment that "blogs will remain raiders on the periphery of the media unless they can demonstrate an ability to build things up as well as cut them down."

# End of an era, all right
Sir Joh is dead. As a Queenslander I feel as if I should say something. I can't though; that guideline about when you have nothing good to say about someone. How about I let Senator Andrew Barlett say it for me, since he had a bit more adult experience of the man.
Actually, on second thought, I do have something to say; Sir Joh is the man that made me distrust authority as much as I do. So for that, I thank him.

# mmm…Ignorancealicious
I'm idly considering hiring out a construction firm to spell out, using the stars in the heavens,
"Hitler Youth membership was compulsory from 1936 to 1945".Anyone know the number of Belgarion & Sons Stellar Engineering?

# The House Un-Australian Committee
Good lord, what an interesting five days. The Secretary for the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters that I made a submission for a few weeks ago got back to acknowledge the submission and also to remind me that according to the rules of parliament, I'm not to publish it anywhere else. Too late :- ) I am supposed to let them know if I don't want them to publish it; I'm not sure where I stand here, given that it's already been published under the CC Attribution-Share Alike license. Lastly, I was informed that they may decide to contact me again if they want me to appear before a public hearing; not bad for a two minute expert.
Then today South Sea Republic published a collection of articles. Sure, you can get it for free as a pdf. Sure, it is a print-on-demand book from cafepress. And sure, as the mercenary D pointed out, I am being anti-paid for it (in that I have to pay to get an author's copy), but who cares.
