# Potter speculation
So Book Seven of Harry Potter is going to come out July 21st. I re-read Book six over the last couple of days to remind myself what happened. Thus, I have opinions.
Voldemort dying is a no-brainer. Snape dying seems pretty likely given that Dumbledore definitely being dead seems to rule out one of those teeth-brushingly-cunning – which is to say, stupid – double-bluff plans.
There seems to be an increasingly widely-held consensus that Harry will die as well. I am pretty sure that is unlikely for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the series isn’t Lord of the Rings, it is Star Wars; Harry isn’t the passive hero that Frodo is, he’s much more like Luke. The series simply doesn’t have that “wallow in it’s own sense of self-tragedy” feel like the last sections of Return of the Rings.
Secondly, Dumbledore goes on and on and on and on in the sixth book about how love is more powerful than any dark magic; given that that is Rowling’s central theme, I can’t see her so casually throwing it aside, casting so much love, both sexual – or teen-hormonal, I suppose – in the case of Ginny and familial on the part of practically everyone else, for Harry for a cheap way to up an ante that should be long built up to an all-in affair by the time Harry and Voldemort actually face off.
I kinda think Malfoy will be the one who got a reprieve, although maybe Rowling was actually flirting with killing off Harry, in which case I would hope it is he that gets the reprieve. The one aspect of Frodo that I do see in Harry is that like Frodo found pity for Gollum, so to Harry does for Malfoy. We’ve already seen it at the end of Book 6, I expect to see more of it n Book 7.
I also kind of think a Dursley will bite it. But I have nothing but the faintest of hunches on that one.
