Liberal Democrats should ask themselves whether, amid today’s cult of military “heroes,” a president would dare cashier a Douglas MacArthur for insubordination, as Harry Truman did in 1951 — and what our liberal hawks would say if he did.
From Military Disaster to Moral High Ground
Given the number of Vietnam-dolchstoss books and discussion points floating around the public discourse, vomiting out their internally- and fraternally inconsistent notions that the US could have won in Vietnam – or even that they did actually win – if only those filthy liberals hadn’t stabbed the military in the back; given this, it would not come as a tremendous surprise to me if the current breed of war supporters already believe Truman committed treason that day.
I’m a news junkie of the worst kind, particularly political news, but every day there is a sense growing in me that politics is poisoning the polity with its shameless use of wikiality to create truthiness. All weekend I waited for someone to respond to this blowhard asking for evidence i and then I thought about why I didn’t; because I know that he, and his fellow travelers – aren’t interested in evidence. They don’t care because they are not interested in winning the argument, only the contest. Some of them – I suspect – would knowingly lose the argument in order to win the contest. As long as they can shout you down, they win the contest; who cares if they are right?
Thank Cino political blogs are, for the most part, about as influential as that loon handing out tenth-generation photocopies of a Jack Chick comic. Pity about all those mendacious books and journalists though.
i It helps to know that the commenter is web-illiterate, so the bits not in upper caps are quotes, the bits in uppercase is spittle-inflected ranting

# I also like to see them lose
Today, we are all French.
I tried to figure out how one would say “Four more years” in the clipped-vowel New Zealand accent; but I got sidetracked laughing at how that same accent might render the sound of a massive choke.
